If you order custom thermoformed plastic trays — ESD electronic trays, clear PET packaging trays, food-grade trays or disposable plastic containers — you may ask one common question: why do we add corner protectors to the cartons before shipment?

Plastic trays look sturdy at first glance, yet they are vulnerable in international logistics. During loading, unloading, pallet stacking and long sea or road transit, carton corners bear most of the impact and compression force. Once the outer carton corners are crushed, the plastic trays inside will shift, rub against each other, get scratched, deformed or even cracked. For clear PET trays and anti-static ESD trays, surface marks and dents can make the whole batch unusable and cause costly rejections at your receiving warehouse. Corner protectors are a simple but highly effective barrier to solve this pain point.

Generic packing is never the best choice. The ideal protective packing solution should be fully customized around your plastic trays, cargo weight, shipment type and destination market. Below is our mature custom protection system built for thermoformed tray exports:

1. Custom-matched corner protectors We select paper or plastic corner guards based on carton size, gross weight and tray fragility. They reinforce four edges of every outer carton, spread stacking pressure evenly and stop corner collapse when pallets are stacked high. This is especially critical for LCL shipments with frequent handling.
2. Right-size export cartons We custom-cut carton dimensions to fit your plastic tray stacking layout exactly. Too large boxes let trays slide and collide; too tight boxes squeeze trays and cause warping. Properly sized cartons hold the inner load stable with minimal movement.
3. Inner layered protection tailored to tray types For glossy clear PET trays: we add separating sheets between layers to prevent scratches. For ESD anti-static trays: we use approved anti-static interleaving materials and avoid contaminating the conductive surface. For thin food-grade plastic trays: foam pads or partition dividers are applied to disperse local pressure.
4. Complete pallet securing package Cartons with corner protectors are arranged neatly on export-standard pallets. We apply stretch wrapping plus plastic strapping to lock the whole pallet unit together. Corner guards work with wrapping and strapping as one integrated protective system.
5. Packing standard adjusted by shipping mode We adjust protection levels for FCL full container, LCL less than container load and air freight separately. LCL cargo changes hands many times, so we strengthen corner protection and increase packing stability. Air shipments prioritize lightweight yet shock-resistant packing.
